The Young Adult Ministry
The Koinonia Class
The Young Adult Ministry of First Christian Church is an exciting place to be! We welcome young adults who have completed their academic pursuits and have moved into the workplace, as well as college students from Milligan College & East Tennessee State University (ETSU). First Christian Church offers times of Praise & Worship, Bible Study, Fellowship, and Service.Since the word Koinonia is Greek for “Fellowship”, we take seriously that we are a part of a larger community. We meet at people’s homes in order to have meals together or to just have fellowship together. Service projects include visitation of our elderly friends, spending time with our elementary school-aged children, as well as assisting our friends at ARM (Assistance Resource Ministry).
Our Sunday School class meets on Sunday mornings at 11:00 on the 2nd floor of the Educational Building. The class has elected to follow a topic discussion format. Some of the topics we’ve projected for the future include:
- The roles of people in the church - focusing on what are the roles of students/young adults and how to move into leadership positions, as well as how to handle dissention in the church.
- Stewardship - consumerism, being part of the church without serving, poverty & our role.
- Where Christian Church belief/doctrine comes from. (Stone-Campbell movement)
- Christians in Palestine
- Living in Community - example of the first century church
- Direction of Worship
- Religion & Politics
- Several Bible Studies such as Galatians, Haggai, Philemon & 3 John
- To enable young adults who have grown up in our church to have ministry & growth opportunities, as well as a place to thrive & fellowship with other young people.
- To provide young adults who have come to this area from “out of town” to work or attend school to have a “home away from home”. A “student membership” is offered for out of town students, so that they can become a member of the FCC community, while maintaining the membership at their own home church.
- To give all young adults who choose to participate in service, ministry & spiritual growth opportunities which will prepare them to become vital & productive members of the Body of Christ as they mature.
